UA8400 8-Channels Ultrasonic Amplifier, 400 volts
General
Description

The UA8400 amplifier provides eight identical ultrasonic
channels. This amplifier is designed to drive piezoelectric
actuators.
Each channel can drive capacitive loads up to 995pF.
Output voltage of 400
volts peak to peak is possible under
smaller loads.
Channel bandwidth is 1MHz ± 3dB.
Channel parameters are adjusted by thumb wheel
and a liquid crystal
display.
The amplifier
also features an emergency stop button.
It
has adequate and low
noise cooling fans.

Channel Characteristics
♣ Channel selection push
button switch
♣ Multi color LED status
indicator
♣ Capacitive output load selection (5pF to 995
pF by 5 pF increments)
♣ Three input voltage range selection (5Vpk, 10Vpk and 0-20Vpk) for full scale output.
♣ Output voltage range selection (50pk to 200Vpk, by 10Vpk increments)

Ultrasonic Amplifier Performances
Frequency Response Tests (-40dB Criterion)
As long as the amplitude of
harmonics remains below 40dB of the
fundamental, the signal is considered sinusoidal. The following figure illustrates the measurement method to
determine the upper limit
of frequency response.
Measurement method

Input voltage signal is adjusted to obtain the
maximum output amplitude at
100KHz, then frequency is
increased until distortion is reached (criterion-40dB)
or up to 1Mhz, whatever
comes
first. Then, output signal attenuation is measured.

Burst
Mode Tests
Measurement method: These tests are made using same frequencies and amplitudes
as those used
for frequency response tests. A two sine pulse burst is applied and output voltage waveform is recorded.
Only output
waveform is shown.

Note:
Burst frequency tests of higher frequencies
than
those illustrated
have similar behaviour
as those in frequency response tests, at those frequencies, energy transfer to the higher
harmonics happens, and output
pulses tend to become more triangular.
500nsec Impulse Response
Methodology
Input signal is adjusted at low frequencies
to get a 25Vpk sine output voltage. The peak value obtained
previously is then used to
generate a 500ns rectangular
step
pulse of this magnitude. The minimum
value is set at 0mv.
Channel 1 is the output signal; channel 2 is the input
signal.
